Amendment in BMC laws
Governor P C Alexander on March 2 promulgated an ordinance amending the Mumbai municipal laws to empower the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC to review different taxes. The ordinance titled Mumbai Municipal Laws amendment 19988242; has become operational with immediate effect. The ordinance read: quot;The BMC is the largest municipal corporation in the country. It carries out several very important duties. It is important to amend the present municipal taxes to ensure smooth and effective functioning of the corporation and to increase its sources of finance. It is also necessary to bring a more systematic procedure of levying and collecting taxes. To bring out these changes, the ordinance has been promulgated.quot;
Youth stabbed to death at Dahisar
A 28-year-old youth who was stabbed by some unidentified persons at Dahisar east on Tuesday night succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.Phiroz Mohammad Khan was in the vicinity of Nancy Colony at 7.55 pm when hewas surrounded by some persons who stabbed him in stomach, back and chest.
