Meet between transporters, government

The Maharashtra Tank-lorry Owners Association MTLOA has decided to keep in abeyance its demand for fixation of workable transportation charges.The association had demanded that transportation charges be fixed by the state government after consulting its members. The deadline for renewing the contract on these charges ended today. The association had warned that it would be compelled to direct its members not to load petroleum products from the midnight of August 31.

The state government, in a meeting with representatives of oil companies8217; and MTLOA, stated that the civil supplies secretary was away on election duty in Bihar and the matter would be taken up after the official8217;s return. The asssociation agreed to the state government8217;s proposal.

Training for pilots

The Institute of Hotel, Cargo amp; Tourism Management IHCTM in association with Resort Aviation, US is offering training for private and commercial pilot licences for helicopters andaircrafts in California. The course duration varies from two to 12 weeks and costs Rs 5 lakh, including accommodation, Internet access, computer testing and English classes.

Devendra Kumar is no more

Noted Gandhian and recipient of the Jamnalal Bajaj award for outstanding contribution to rural development, Dr Devendra Kumar ,today breathed his last at Hinduja Hospital where he was being treated for lung cancer. His body will be cremated at his Karmabhumi Wardha near Nagpur on September 2. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.

Children8217;s film screenings

Screenings of children8217;s films will begin at the Y B Chavan Centre near Sachivalaya on September 8 at 6.30 pm. Virendra Saini8217;s national award-winning debut film Kabhi Pass Kabhi Fail will open the festival. Other award-winning children8217;s films including Malli, Nandan, and Running Wild will be screened from September 24 -30 at Nataraj theatre at Chembur, Navrang atAndheri, and Jai Ganesh at Mulund.

Anti-plastic bag drive

As part of its anti-plastic bag drive, the Bombay Natural History Society has introduced bio-degradable paper shopping bags made of recycled paper for sale at its product section. A series of wildlife greeting cards is also on sale at the society office near Regal cinema.
