Illegal hutments demolished
The BMC pulled down over a thousand illegal hutments that had come up near the Deonar Dumping Ground at Padmanagar Chilkalwadi today.
Assistant engineer Bldg and Factories B M Salve, who led the operation, said that a total of 1710 structures, some pucca and others semi-permanent, were demolished. 8220;Most of these shanties were covered with metal sheets,8221; he added. The Shivaji Nagar police had provided security.
2 gangsters arrested
Two members of the Amar Naik gang were arrested at Mumbai Central today. The arrested, Sayyed Lifayat Hussain and Harish Sheth, were wanted in several cases, according to the anti-extortion cell of Mumbai police. The police also seized 7.65 bore imported pistol and 7 live cartridges and a 0.38 bore revolver with five live cartridges.
