Talks between govt, teachers fail

Talks between the state government and the Maharashtra State Junior College Teachers Federation failed today, with the government expressing its inability to meet the additional financial burden it would have to shoulder if it met the teachers8217; demands in toto, it is reliably learnt.

The Narayan Rane government categorically told the union that that it is not in a position to shoulder the additional Rs 500 crore which it claimed it would have to pay up. Another round of talks are scheduled for tomorrow.

The teachers, who are demanding that their salaries be paid in tune with the Fifth Pay Commission8217;s recommendation, had struck work for 41 days from December to January.

Civic proposal on uniforms okayed

The General Administration Committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC passed a Rs 44 lakh proposal to provide uniforms to officers and workers of the Mumbai Fire Brigade. The proposal, which was earlier rejected by the erstwhile StandingCommittee, invited its share of criticism. Samajwadi Party corporator Sunil Ganacharya alleged that the Mayor and the civic administration had favoured a certain Sanjay Safety Apparels, by awarding it the contract. The proposal will now be placed before the general body for final approval.

Maniben college8217;s annual day

Srimati Maniben M P Shah Women8217;s College of Arts and Commerce, Matunga, celebrated its annual day on Friday. The college8217;s NSS unit had been engaged throughout the year in social activities and students had staged street plays, held exhibitions and organised awareness programmes on issues like station cleanliness, environmental pollution and kicking plastic. Rajan Velukar, SLO, Mantralaya, was the chief guest, while S A Adsule, assistant director of education was the special guest.

Alternative therapy congress

The fifth World Congress 5 on Alternative Medicines and Therapies will be held at Amar Gian Grover Auditorium , Lala Lajpatrai College, Haji Ali from March 12 to 14.The congress has been organised by Om Health and Research Foundation.
