Cops nabbed taking bribes

THE Anti Corruption Cell recently arrested two policemen on charges of accepting bribes recently. Constable Ashok Dinkar Jadhav, attached to the detection squad of the Dongri police station, was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 60,000 on Tuesday night, while senior Sub-Inspector Ashok D Jagdale was arrested at his Santa Cruz residence at 5 am on Wednesday.The cops had also reportedly sexually assaulted a woman whom they were interrogating in connection with a murder case.

Bal Kalyan bldg at Mankhurd

A building that was under repairs in the Children8217;s Aid Society, Bal Kalyan Nagari which houses orphans and children of poor, single parent families is now ready for occupation. The building, renamed Anant8217;, will be inaugurated on Sunday, January 24 at 10.00 am at Bal Kalyan Nagari, Agarwadi, Mankhurd.

On the same day and at the same time, the wedding ceremony of Vaishali and Ramsingh, two orphans, will take place. Another marriage is scheduled for February orMarch.

The society has appealed for funds to support these marriages. Those interested can contact Aruna Acharya on 5580557.

Horticultural exhibition

The Tree Authority and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC are organising an exhibition and workshop on plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables between February 4 and February 7 at Veermata Jijamata Bhosale Udyan. The exhibition will display ornamental, aromatic and medicinal plants, orchids, cacti and creepers from Konkan region. Workshops on horticulture will also be conducted. Those interested in participating can register by Rs 1,000. Entry fee is Rs 2 for adults and Re 1 for children. For details, contact the Superintendent of Gardens on 3725799/3578. Seminar on noise pollution

The Rotary Club of Bombay West, Anti-Noise Pollution Committee, Medical Consultant Associations and Bombay Environment Action Group are organising a one day seminar on Harmful Effects of Noise8217; from 9 am to12.30 pm on January 24 at the Rotary Service Centre, Juhu. The aim of the seminar is to create awareness of the harmful effects that noise pollution can have on the human body and the mind.

The Western India Regional Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India has organised a one day students8217; conference on personal development on Saturday, January 23 at Sydenham College Auditorium, Churchgate. The conference will discuss issues like preparation for professional examination, improving communication skills and excelling at interviews.
