Jaslok to plug hearts sans surgery
Doctors at Jaslok Hospital have come up with a new way to treat heart ailments whereby holes in the heart can be plugged without any surgery. Also, patients will be able to walk within 24 hours of the treatment. Under this procedure, conducted for the first time in Mumbai, an umbrella-like device is inserted through a tube into the heart, which closes the holes.
The benefits: just one hour of anaesthesia, no cuts, no scars and no aches or pains. The procedure was conducted on six patients, including children, all of whom were discharged within a day. According to Dr Bharat Dalvi, one among the team which undertook the treatment, no side-effects have been observed so far.
College function on Jaybala
Kala Vihar, a charitable society for the promotion of arts, talent and culture, held a function at National College Hall, Bandra, on Saturday, for Jaybala8217;s cause. TV actors Sanjeevani of Kareeb and Shiv Prasad regaled audience with theirperformance.
Drawing contest for children
On the occasion of Children8217;s Day, Fantasy Land will be organising special functions on November 14. A drawing competition will be held for children in the 4-12 age group. There will also be group games and other contests, with prizes for the winners.
