Bomb scare at High Court
The bomb squad of the Mumbai police searched the premises of Bombay High Court on Friday following an anonymous call informing that a bomb had been placed inside. However, the call turned out to be a hoax.

The police received the threatening call at 11.30 am. Immediately the bomb disposal squad arrived in the court and pressed into service sniffer dogs to search for suspicious objects. The police carried out personal search of advocates as well as those visiting the court at all the four gates of the High Court. However, court proceedings went on as usual.

IE employee expires
A press employee Sher-Ali Abdul Sakoor, who was working in the plate making department of the Indian Express, expired on August 27. He was 57, and is survived by his wife, four daughters and two sons.

Parkinson8217;s disease therapy
Meditronics has launched a new therapy in the treatment of Parkinson8217;s disease which involves mild electrical stimulation within the brain. It is effective in patients who suffer from severe symptoms of the disease and the side effects of medication. The therapy controls stiffness or inflexibility of the limbs and joints, slowness or lack of movement, tremor and difficulty in co-ordination and balance. It also controls the wild movement of the limbs and head frequently experienced by Parkinson8217;s patients on high dose of drugs.

The sixth Naval Tata memorial lecture will be held today at 5.30 pm at the Walchand Hirachand Hall, fourth floor, Indian Merchant8217;s Chamber, Churchgate. F C Kohli, deputy chairperson, Tata Consultancy Services, will deliver a talk on Information Technology in the Indian Context8217;.

College teachers stage morchas
MUMBAI, August: Teachers of degree colleges affiliated to Mumbai University and SNDT University and owing allegiance to Bombay University and College Teachers8217; Union BUCTU today staged massive morchas in the suburbs ranging from Malad, Kandivli, Goregaon, Andheri, Vile Parle to Ghatkopar and Vidyavihar. Over 2000 teachers took part in these processions to demand that the HRD Ministry end its delays and start meaningful dialogue with the striking teachers.

On September 1, thousands of teachers from all over the state will assemble at Azad Maidan at 11 am as part of the nationwide demonstration in state capitals.

BARC school8217;s graduation
The graduation function of the BARC Training School will be held on August 29 at 2.30 pm at the Central Complex Auditorium, BARC, at Trombay. The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Bimal Jalan, will be the chief guest on the occasion and will give away the Homi Bhabha prizes to the winning students.

Release of book on Indian culture
A Marathi book on Indian culture, Mahan Sanskrutiche Varasdar, by Pannalal B Jakhotia, will be released on Monday, August 31, at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. Famous astrologist Jayant Salgaonkar will officially release the book at around 5.30 pm.

Courses in artistic handwriting
