Students support teachers’ stir:

About 200 students of College of Social Work, Nirmala Niketan staged a peaceful dharna protesting the government’s apathy towards the nation-wide teachers’ strike.

The all India university teachers strike seeking higher pay and other benefits entered its 17th day today. Many of the students today also collected signatures at Churchgate, CST stations and around Azad Maidan.

Carrying placards stating that `teaching – a noble profession with pauper’s salary’ the students expressed support to the teachers’ agitation. A memorandum to the state governor voicing the students opinion was forwarded along with the signature of the public supporters.

Vividha contest at Thane school:

The Sanskriti Academy of Fine Arts, Thane, has organised Vividha, an inter-school competition, on Sunday, August 30, at 9.30 am at SES High School, Panchpakkadi, Thane. The students will compete for the `Sankriti Yogya’ award which will be given for excellence in gaayan, vadya sangeet, samooha gaan, katha pathan and essay writing. The programme will also include a specially designed quiz on Indian culture, which will focus on history, literature, fine arts, culture and lifestyles. Violin maestro Dr N Rajam will hand over the Sanskriti Jyot to the school scoring the highest points.

Yoga camp for asthma patients:

A Yoga camp for asthma patients has been organised by Vivekananda Kendra from September 7 to September 1 1998 between 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm every day. Night degree college:

Hind Seva Parishad, a educational organisation, has started Night Degree College of Arts and Commerce for students of underprivileged from August 15 1998 at Hind Nagar, Vakola.

Computer course for spastics:
