
Extortionists held at Dahisar
MUMBAI, May 17: Two alleged extortionists were nabbed by the Dahisar police on Saturday night. Following a tip-off that the duo were likely to meet at a lonely spot near Gokhale Nursing Home at Gawde Nagar in Dahisar, the police laid a trap. At around 10.30 pm, the police party saw two men moving about in a suspicious manner. After surrounding the two, the police inspector warned them to surrender. However, Suresh Shetty and Ravindra Surve opened fire on the police who fired back. Finally, the police succeeded in overpowering the culprits and took them into custody. One revolver and five live rounds were recovered from them.

Women8217;s meet at Thane
At a three-day conference beginning on Sunday, over 250 delegates from all over the state will discuss problems faced by women.
The meet has been organised by the state unit of National Federation of Indian Women at M H High School, Thane. The issues slated for discussion include feminisation of poverty, effect of communalism on rights of women, and the ever increasing incidence of domestic violence and atrocities on women, said Meghana Mehendale, president Thane unit of the Bharatiya Mahila Federation, adding that Pushpa Bhave, Shrinivas Khadelwale, Sulabha Brahme, Nirmale Sathe, Sushma Datar are expected to speak.
