  • SIES to get back playground

  • The Bombay High Court has ordered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to hand over a portion of a playground plot at Sion to the South Indian Educational Society SIES for development and maintenance.
  • The SIES had earlier appealed to the court to intervene after the BMC refused to hand over the plot, saying allotment was a licence determinable by a notice and that they intended to revoke it. The matter has been adjourned to June 8.

  • Urologist wins B C Roy award

  • Dr Ajit Phadke, city-based urologist, has been awarded the B C Roy Award for encouraging development of his faculty. Dr Phadke, head of the urology department at the Bombay hospital, also practises at the Colony Nursing Home, Matunga. He became president of the Urological Society of India in 1992, and is presently heading the Smarth Vyayam Mandir and the Nana Palkar Smruti Samiti.
  • Minority status for SIES college

  • The SIES college of management studies at Nerul has been granted minority status by the Bombay High Court. This will allow the institution to admit 50 per cent of its students from the South Indian community.
  • Mahatma site judged best8217;

  • The official web site of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, dedicated to the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi, has been adjudged the best site on the Internet by a Yahoo Specialist Team this week. The web.mahatma.org.in, hostedfrom India by Mahatma8217;s great grandson Tushar Gandhi, offers over 100,000 printed pages of text and over 5,000 photographs.
