Principals elected to Senate
The list of principals elected to the University of Mumbai Senate has beenannounced. The following principals have been elected: Shailaja Sangle, PUnnikrishnan, D B Kadam, N K Phadke, S N Shetty, S P Patil, R M Upadhye,Subhash A Deo, S G Deshmukh, Gurav Hemant Balkrishna, R A Heredia, KVenkatramani, Sunanda Kar, T S Y Ram and P N Kishore. Principals elected asAcademic Council members are: S G Chitale of Hazarimal Somani college,Chowpatty, M S Kurhade of J S M College, Shivale, H R Madhavi, Arts, Scienceamp; Commerce college, Panvel, A E Lakdawalla, Royal College at Mira Road and VN Magare of Kirti College.

Sankaracharya of Kanchi8217;s visit
The 69th Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sri Jayendra Saraswati andhis junior Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati will visit Mumbai in the firstweek of February 2000. They will stay at the South Indian Education SocietySIES at Nerul. A hundred and twenty-one rithviks will chant vedic hymnsglorifying Shiva 11 times a day from January 26 for 11 days. After japamevery day, Rudra Homam, Chandi Homam and Chandi Pranayanam will be performed.
