Karnataka’s base was Rahul Dravid’s workman-like innings accelerating from his overnight 77. Karnataka were at least assured that they will not lose the match outright.
Mumbai, were set to bat for 32 overs and were cruising at a steady pace when two wickets tumbled and in the 17 overs gone through before play was called off by mutual consent they had made 70 for two.
The hosts picked up three points for taking the first innings lead of 142, having replied with 337 to Karnataka’s modest opening tally of 195.
Karnataka declared 25 minutes before tea. Mumbai lost openers Sahil Kukreja and Wasim Jaffer in the second innings before play was called off.
