
Dnyaneshwar Mhatre, president of Nhava-Sheva-Uran Sthanik Truck Malak Seva Sangh said today the truckers, originally farmers and labourers on agricultural lands and salt fields acquired by JNPT, are fully dependent on transport business since 1989.
The in-coming and out-going flow of goods from private parties at JNPT came down drastically following JNPT authority’s new policy during last two years, Mhatre said and appealed to JNPT to re-start importing rock phosphate, sulphur and D.A.P. to provide jobs to the drivers.
Sharad Pawar to visit Thane
Thane city (district) Congress president Subhash Kanade told that Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Ranjit Deshmukh, and leader of opposition in the legislative council Chhagan Bhujbal will also address the rally. Meanwhile, the Thane city (district) and Thane district (rural) Congress committee in its meeting urged the MPCC not to permit the re-entry of rebel activists. A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of party office bearers.
Kanade said that those present at the meeting voiced their concern over the anti-party activities carried out by rebel Congressmen which had ruined the party in the district.
Gurudas Kamat, former MP along with MPCC office bearers visited Thane today to study the situation in the party.
