
Two arrested for Gulshan Kumar murder
The Mira Road police arrested two persons allegedly involved in the murder of music baron Gulshan Kumar in 1997 from Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.Following the murder of a Chhota Rajan aide Mohammed Anwar at Bhayander, Mira Road police had begun investigations. They arrested one Imtiyaz Merchant and on interrogating him, came to know of one Rashid Merchant holed up in a house at Deva district in Bara Banki. Rashid was allegedly the back-up shooter along with Rauf Raja in the killing of Kumar on August 12, 1997. 8220;Along with Rashid, his mother Fatema Merchant too has a role in the killing. Both were arrested,8221; said superintendent of Thane rural police Param Bir Singh. He said the two will be taken into the custody of Mira Road police and after completion of investigations, will be handed over to crime branch.
EC observers to resume work
The three senior IAS officers posted as election observers by the Election Commission of India for the Mumbai North-EastLok Sabha constituency, who allegedly ransacked the IDBI guesthouse at Cuffe Parade last week, will be back to the city on September 6. The state8217;s chief electoral officer Dr D K Sankaransaid the three would be back to the city to resume their assignment. 8220;Though there is no communication from EC about the three yet, the three are most likely to be back. However, we will make accommodation arrangements for them at the High Mount government guesthouse at Malabar Hill,8221; said Sankaran.
NCP accused of extortion threats
Promoters of Pan India Paryatan Ltd and Esselworld have lodged a police complaint against the Nationalist Congress Party NCP for demanding Rs 10 lakh from them as extortion. The threatening calls were made by the NCP between September 1 to 3, the complainants have said. The officials have also lodged a complaint with the state8217;s chief electoral officer Dr D K Sankaran and chief election commissioner M S Gill.
