Boy drowns in Ulhasnagar
Pappu Hotchand Lund 13 drowned at the Dolphin Club Swimming pool at Ulhasnagar today. Pappu, who had gone for a swim at around 2.30 pm, was not such an able swimmer but went ahead into the deeper section of the pool, claimed the club owners.

His parents have charged the club with negligence and lodged a complaint with the central police station, Ulhasnagar. The police have registered an offence under Section 74 of the CRPC.

Further investigation is on.

ACB traps food inspectors
The Anti-Corruption Bureau ACB today arrested a municipal engineer, a social worker and two food and drug inspectors on graft charges in separate cases. All four were remanded to judicial custody till May 7 by Addtional Metropolitan Magistrate A A Kidwai. Junior engineer of L ward Anil Nikashe was arrested for demanding Rs 6,000 to pass an illegal construction in Kurla and his associate Chandrakant Nikme was nabbed for accepting the amount on behalf of the engineer, sources said.In another case two food and drug inspectors, Dyandev Kurtake and Vikas Biyani were arrested for accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 as a part of Rs 1 lakh from a coconut oil manufacturer for passing a defective product.

Rly union8217;s silver jubilee
The Rail Mazdoor Union has decided to celebrate the silver jubilee of the 1974 railway strike led by George Fernandes. A convention has been organised on May eight to commemorate the event. The Rail Mazdoor Union and V R Malgi Foundation have decided to hold a conference of railwaymen to enlighten the present generation about the history of the railways. George Fernandes, who is the Defence Minister, will address the gathering in Mumbai.
