UMC polls: HC admits plea
The High Court today admitted the petition of Hardas Makhija, the Congress corporator in the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation UMC seeking judicial intervention in the dispute over the mayoral poll held on Tuesday.

In the controversial polls, Shiv Sena-supported independent candidate Kumar Ailani was elected Ulhasnagar Mayor by a margin of just one vote after thecivic secretary8217;s decision declaring his rival Hardas Makhija was reversed by Mayor Yashaswini Naik. The mayor not only refused to sign the returning officer8217;s statement, but also ruled that one vote cast in Hardas Makhija8217;s favour was invalid. She then proceeded to cast her own vote in Ailani8217;s favour.

Vendors8217; stir called off
The Navi Mumbai Vritta Patra Sangh today called off its three-day strike on Thursday after most of their demands were met by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. In a deal brokered by Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has agreed to let the vendors keep their stalls open between 7 am and 11 am and later 4 pm and 9 pm. The corporation has also agreed to let the vendors stock newsmagazines.
