BJP men held for Kalyan murder

The Thane police have arrested three Bharatiya Janata Party activists in connection with the murder of Vinod Ramchandra Bhave (35), the vice-president of the BJP Kalyan unit. Bhave was murdered at around 6 am on Saturday near Kalyan railway station while he was on his way to work at Premier Automobiles. The BJP activists arrested by Thane police are Anil Jharande, president of the BJP Kalyan unit, and Ravi Jadhav and Suhas Bhonsale, both BJP workers. Police said it was political enmity that led to Bhave’s killing.

Chain-snatchers arrested

The Juhu police recently nabbed two chain-snatchers barely half an hour after they had committed the offence at Khar. Police said a wireless message was flashed that two persons had snatched the golden chain of a woman at Khar and fled in a white Fiat. About 20 minutes later, officers of Juhu police, who had set up a nakabandi near Hotel Centaur, spotted the car. They searched the occupants and found two gold chains intheir possession. They also found the car was stolen. The culprits were identified as Alim Khan Bashir Khan and Sunil Kumar Verma. Police later recovered three other cars stolen by this duo.

Atomic energy employees’ stir

Over 3,000 employees of the Department of Atomic Energy will observe the week long science week’ to be observed by the institution from February 22 as a protest week. The employees have criticised the DAE’s move of announcing an incentive of two increments only for scientists and engineers drawing salaries of over Rs 10,000 to 15,200. February 22 will be observed as a black day and employees will wear black badges. On February 23 and 24, the employees will also hold a dharna in front of the BARC’s north gate. February 25 and 26 will be observed as a tool down and pen down day.

2 Chhota Rajan men arrested

Two alleged members of underworld don Chhota Rajan’s gang were arrested for threatening a builder for extortion money at Naigaon on Saturday night.
