
96 police personnel transferred
MUMBAI, May 7: In a major reshuffle, city Police Commissioner Ronnie H Mendonca has transferred 96 police personnel. The list of the transferred include three assistant commissioners of police, 23 senior inspectors and 71 inspectors. ACP S A Khankal of the Mantralaya security division was transferred to Borivli, while ACP Vijay Pagare was transferred from Borivli to Mantralaya and ACP R D Albal has been transferred to Kandivli.
Plea on beach volleyball to be reconsidered
The police will re-examine the application filed by Procam Sports to stage the three-day Asian Beach Volleyball Championships at Girgaum Chowpatty from May 22. Said Joint Commissioner of Police law and order Dr P S Pasricha, the police, who had earlier turned down the application after an order was issued on Tuesday , is re-examining the application following a request by the organisers. He said a final decision will be taken after consulting the government. The police had argued thatstaging the championships would cause traffic hazards in Marine Drive.
Plea against suspension of Pre-School Act
A division bench of Bombay High Court admitted a petition on Wednesday challenging the suspension of the Pre-School Act by the state government on Sena chief Bal Thackeray8217;s wishes, said Forum for Fairness in Education, western suburbs. The forum challenged the arbitrary suspension at the diktat of an extra-constitutional authority and wanted the Act to be implemented scrupulously8217;. Chief Justice M B Shah and Justice Sakhare refused to grant a stay on the government decision.
