.

Alarmed by the widespread criticism — on law and order, non-availability of power, shortage of potable water etc — the Mulayam Government has decided to bring out a quarterly newsletter highlighting its achievements.

And for this, Sahara Group chairman Subroto Roy, who is a member of the State Development Council and owns a newspaper and a TV channel, has been roped in to provide the necessary ‘‘guidance’’.

‘‘It has been observed that people are not getting proper details of the development jobs being undertaken by the Development Council. To ensure all-round development, the co-operation of everybody is needed. And for that, it has been decided that a newsletter should be taken out every third month — four in an year,’’ read the minutes of the recent meeting of the Development Council in which CM Mulayam Singh Yadav was also present. The newsletters, in Hindi and English, will be handled by the Director, Information Department. It will also be posted on the State’s website.

In 2001, former CM Rajnath Singh had undertaken a similar experiment. Special bulletins listing the government’s achievements were dispatched by the State Information Department to over 2.5 lakh village heads.
