VADODARA, Dec 13: The student union elections of the M S University, scheduled to be held on December 24, may be postponed again with another student Dakshesh Gandhi filing an affidavit on Friday demanding that the elections be postponed.
Claiming that the declared date of elections would delay the semester, Gandhi has also pointed out that the date left very little time for campaigning.
Meanwhile, student union members, demanding that the polls be put off, have said that the declared dates were inconvenient for both the contestants as well as for those casting their votes, because while those in the fray didn’t get enough time for campaigning, the students were also not familiar with those contesting.
Talking to Express Newsline, university general secretary Prakash Verma said with the university denying permission to interrupt classes for campaigning, very little time was left for candidates to campaign.
He said while the union leaders were familiar with old students, new entrants were still to get acquainted with student leaders. Verma threatened that if the university did not postpone the elections, they would start agitational programmes.
“It is pointless to contest an election without having enough time to campaign. Also there is hardly any time to work out an agenda,” Verma said, adding if students had to file their nominations by December 16 then there would not get even time to move from one faculty to another.
