Who ran to help me when I fell
And would same pretty story tell
Or kiss the place to make it well?
My MOTHER
8211; Anne Taylor
A mother 8211; the very epitome of perfection to young eyes. A mother 8211; the role model for a young girl to groom herself into, someone to look upto, someone who just couldn8217;t be wrong. As a l8217;il girl who held on to your mom8217;s little finger as possessively as you did most importantly her every word, your mother was all the above and more. But things started changing somewhere over a period of time and the change was so subtle that you don8217;t even remember when it started showing it8217;s ill-effects.
What is essentially missing is proper communication8217;. It is necessary for both the parties to realise that while one is growing up the other isn8217;t really getting any younger. Biologically and physically, too, things take their toll. Words uttered in haste and in a fit of fury, which wouldn8217;t have otherwise, might be forgotten but the hurt stays. After all who is the antagonist, your own daughter, your own mother!! Given a chance every mother would like to become a friend of her daughter.
Chaitra Puthli, 20, feels that her mother is her best friend. She is the first person she runs to in times of trouble. 8220;We do have a lot of fights but she is the more patient of the two while I end up raising my voice. At times we are both stubborn but we are also very attached. Arguments are generally over petty matters. Major issues are always discussed thoroughly. I would describe my relationship with her as being perfect8217;.quot;
Rozanna Rodricks, mother of two teenaged daughters prefers an open dialogue with them. 8220;I encourage them to speak up and tell me their points of view. After telling them what I feel, I leave the ultimate decision to them. After all, it8217;s their lives. But as a parent I want them to know that I love them a lot and would go to any extent to help them from falling down.8217;
A mother-daughter relationship is an ever-growing one. Today8217;s daughter is tomorrow8217;s mother. It is a phase every woman has to undergo in her life. Your mother probably IS very well all that you had thought she was. You8217;ve perhaps lost that vision somewhere down the lane. Your daughter is still that little girl you put to sleep once but it8217;s time to realise that she is also a growing girl whose sense of independence is somehow taking precedence over her inherent love for you. Reach out to each other and savour the years you8217;ve been given to live under one roof, living the beautiful relationship.
