Investigators probing the Mecca Masjid blasts in Hyderabad have turned to a narco-analysis recording of an alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba operative who was arrested on the India-Bangladesh border in early April in their search for the perpetrators of the crime.

Sheikh Samir alias Abdul Nayeem during his narco-analysis last month had said that he had helped different groups of people to sneak into various places in India, including Hyderabad, from Bangladesh, before he was nabbed by the BSF on April 1. He is currently in the custody of the Mumbai Police following revelations during the narco test that he had assisted the Mumbai train blasts accused as well.

“He was very hard to break during the narco-analysis. When he finally did, he spoke of helping various intruders. He mentioned four to five names of people he had sent to Hyderabad on a train. He said he bribed security officials to help intrusions,” an expert involved with the narco-analysis said. The intruders carried bags and containers that could have held explosives, Samir is reported to have said.

Samir, who is around 26-years-old, told investigators that he had sent intruders to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Jammu and Kashmir after he was hired by a man called Amjad nearly 18 months ago. He said he visited Dhaka often and that his role was primarily to help smuggle people across the border.

Samir reportedly admitted interactions with a man called Shahid while smuggling people into India. A man called Shahid alias Bilal, associated with the Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami in Bangladesh and having links with the LeT and the Jaish-e-Mohammad, is currently suspected to be the mastermind behind the Hyderabad blasts.

Sources said the Hyderabad Police were thinking of subjecting Samir to another narco-analysis if the recorded version proved to be insufficient leads.
