S.A.S. NAGAR, July 23: The Mohali Industries Association (MIA) at its meeting held here today has given a bandh call for July 29 to protest the steep power tariff hike in Punjab.Stating this MIA president R.S. Sachdeva said that work in industrial units of the township would come to a halt and there would be no production for the whole day.Resenting the unprecedented and arbitrary power tariff hike announced by the Punjab State Electricity Board, the meeting felt that the 33 per cent hike would cripple the industry which was passing through severe recession. The Board, instead of improving transmission and generation systems and cutting down losses, it was bent on ruining the industry by raising the tariff, the members said. It was pointed out that industry was being made to pay for losses of the Board and for free supply of power to agriculture sector. The Association, however, urged Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh to reconsider the decision and save the industry from the brink of disaster.
