A woman, along with her lover, was arrested by the Ghaziabad Police on Saturday for allegedly murdering her husband and dumping his body near Hapur Road nearly two weeks ago.

Police identified the deceased as Yogesh (31), a resident of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad, and the accused as his wife Pooja (27) and her lover Aashish (31).

“On September 24, Yogesh had left home on his motorcycle after receiving a phone call. But he did not return home. On October 2, Pooja filed a missing person’s complaint with the Link Road police station,” Sahibabad Assistant Police Commissioner Shweta Kumari Yadav said.

“We found an unidentified body near the forested area of Saraswati Medical College at Pilkhuwa in Hapur on October 8. The body was later identified as that of Yogesh,” she added.

With the police finding injury marks on the head, officers began scanning Yogesh’s cellphone records. “He was last in contact with Pooja and Aashish, a resident of Bulandshahr district. When questioned, Pooja’s statements were inconsistent,” said Yadav.

Police said Aashish and Pooja admitted to the crime during questioning. “Pooja was in an extramarital relationship with Aashish for nearly three years. Yogesh had discovered the affair and often quarreled with her over the issue, which led the couple to plan his murder,” said an officer.

Police said that on September 24, Pooja called Yogesh and asked him to come to the college on his motorcycle. Meanwhile, Aashish and his friends, Chandrapal and Praveen, also reached the location. When Yogesh arrived, Aashish and his accomplices allegedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon, killing him on the spot, police added.

“The accused fled, leaving the motorcycle and the body. Later, Aashish and Chandrapal threw Yogesh’s cellphone into the bushes. Pooja returned home and pretended to be unaware of her husband’s whereabouts,” said the officer.

On Saturday, the Link Road police team arrested Aashish and Pooja from near Kisan Chowk at Gaur City in Greater Noida West. Yogesh’s cellphone was recovered from Aashish.

Police said they are looking into Chandrapal and Praveen’s involvement in the crime.
