After confirming that Gujarat was not affected by the earthquake, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today offered to send search and rescue squads and relief teams to Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said this morning, Modi sent a fax to the Pak High Commissioner, offering teams which are trained to handle post-quake situations.

“Expressing sorrow over the death and destruction in Pakistan, the chief minister has written to them that our highly-trained fire brigade personnel and rescue and relief teams will be kept ready in case they require help,’’ additional principal secretary to the chief minister, Pankaj Kumar, said.

CEO of Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) Rajesh Kishore said ‘‘We offered to send the teams at a short notice’’
