CHENNAI, Jan 10: The Dattajirao Kadam Textile Institute has weaved a 4-km long red carpet for the Oman Sultan, which extends from the Airport to Sultan’s Palace. The carpet was not produced by instant magical utterances, instead it took eight months of hard labour by the textile men of Ichalkaranji, the manchester of Maharastra. The work of weaving the carpet was finished on time and the Sultan was accorded a red carpet welcome on November 19, the national day of Oman. The experts from the institute had flown to Muscat, redesigned the looms and worked day and night for the Sultan’s magic carpet. They had also design a special carpet-laying device.
