An incident which happened in my home some time ago can never be forgotten.

It was on a hot summer evening in the month of May, my father went out for a hair-cut. After some time, around 7.00 pm, my younger brother returned from the play-ground and we sat down to watch TV. Ours is a single bedroom flat with the bathroom near the front door.

My brother left the door unbolted. We were both glued to our chairs watching a movie, while my mother was busy in the kitchen and preparing the food for the dinner.

When my father returned he pushed open the door and came in. He then bolted the door and went directly to the bathroom . None of us noticed his arrival as we were fully involved in our respective activities. When my mother came out from the kitchen, she heard movements and the sound of water from the bathroom. She concluded that some miscreants had entered. She silently came to the TV room and informed us that a thief was in the bathroom.

Accordingly, as instructed by her, we moved out quickly and silently. We locked the door from outside, called our neighbours and informed them that a thief had entered our flat.

They rushed up immediately with sticks and rods. One of our neighbours called out, “Hi, who is inside, come out, you cannot escape.” But the thief (that is, my father) shouted, “Who are you to enter my house?” My mother recognised my father’s voice and said, “Oh! He is my husband only”. It was really too embarassing and we could nothing but laugh!
