SURAT, June 17: Union textiles Minister Kashiram Rana inaugurated a school, Navchetan Vidyalaya, at Junagam village in Hazira area on Tuesday. The school building — complete with all facilities including water and electricity supply, roads — has been set up with a Rs 20 lakh-development fund given by the Reliance Industries Limited, Hazira.

Speaking on the occasion, Rana said when industries take up development works like building schools, providing water and electricity, roads and other welfare measures it created a harmonious relationship between industries and villagers in the vicinity and brought the two closer.While praising the industries for contributing towards villagers’ welfare, he said by setting up the school, a long-pending demand of the villagers was fulfilled.

While praising Reliance for taking up the social responsibility, he said setting up of industrial units in the region was a welcome, but the industries should also ensure the welfare of the people staying nearby and do all possible towards the development of the area.

Specifically referring to education he said it should be the top priority of the villagers and should be addressed first.

Speaking on the occasion, Olpad MLA Dhansukh Patel said there was no school within 10 kms radius of Junagam and so the school would not only help children of the village, but also those from neighbouring villages of Suvali and Rajgari.

President of RIL H S Kohli, said when the company came to know that the villagers wanted to build a school, but were looking for finances, it readily agreed to finance the project. He said now it was the duty of the school management to provide quality education to children of Junagam and its surrounding villages. He added that the company was even willing to plant saplings at the school playground and would do so if approached. Collector R M Shah, SUDA chairman Arvind Godiwala among others also spoke at the function.
