Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, seen as the moving force behind her party’s success in Kashmir, says she’s unlikely to shift her base after being elected as a member of Parliament from Anantnag.‘‘For me becoming an MP is just like getting another platform — a bigger one though — to voice my concerns,’’ Mehbooba told The Indian Express from Srinagar. ‘‘I am going to Jammu to be with my partymen before leaving for Delhi for oath-taking,’’ he said‘‘I have my roots here and will stay on since I began my career form here,’’ Mehbooba said. Sonia Gandhi had called up the Muftis to congratulate them on the victory. ‘‘I was touched. She thought of us in spite of her engagements,’’ Mehbooba said. The Congress-PDP alliance in J-K worked well — Congress trounced BJP on two Jammu seats and PDP won a Valley seat. The Ladakh seat was won by Chewwang Thuptstan, supported by the alliance. Mehbooba regrets having lost the Baramulla seat to the NC since the two parties could not put up a common candidate.Besides her ‘‘Kashmir agenda’’, Mehbooba says her effort would be to get the state’s economic problems solved. So PDP chief would walk into Parliament with a bagful of contentious issues — the scrapping of the Indus water treaty with Pakistan and the Shahtoosh among them.
