PUNE, Oct 4: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, market leaders in tractors unveiled their new generation tractor - the Mahindra 605 DI in the 60HP range in Pune recently.The most advanced tractor in its range, the sleekly designed tractor is expected to roll out of the Mumbai plant and get commercialised in the next three months.The tractor will first be launched in Maharashtra, which is considered the highest consumer of the 50 HP category in the country. The tractor has been launched to keep pace with the potential competition from the multinationals and to meet the growing demand for high powered machines in the 50 HP category.Speaking at the launch, Soumitra Mukerji, senior general manager, strategy and product management for farm equipment sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said, ``This represents a quantum leap in technology over the existing Indian tractors and is the result of the last three years of effort by the company.''Mukerji said that the product would proceed much higher than the 50 HP 585 tractor which is priced around Rs. 3.5 lakh. The company hopes to make an impact on the pattern of demand with this tractor. He said that some of the existing models are also likely to be phased out depending on the response of the market.Mahindra & Mahindra sold around 70,000 units and achieved a turnover of Rs. 2,000 crore last year.
