Girls outshone boys in this year’s Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination with a pass percentage of 85.5 per cent. The results were declared today.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Vijaysinh Mohite Patil congratulated students who cleared the examination. ‘‘A progressive state, Maharashtra has a glorious tradition in the field of education, which these students have further strengthened,’’ Patil said in a statement issued here.

The pass percentage of Mumbai division is 81.12 per cent and for Mumbai it is 77.38 per cent, board sources said. Examinations were conducted in about 149 centres in which 1.51 lakh students appeared for the exams.

In Pune division, Chaitanya Avinash Ganoo (96.67 per cent) of Fergusson College topped the examination.
