JAN 6: BCCI anti-corruption commissioner K Madhavan on Saturday said that he hopes to complete his report on two former coaches-Kapil Dev and Ajit Wadekar- by the end of this month.

In an interview to a private television channel, Madhavan however made it clear that calling Kapil Dev and Wadekar was not an after thought on his part.

It is the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which decided that these former captains also needed to be investigated.

Madhavan was to have examined Kapil Dev and Wadekar this weekend here but both sought postponment of the meetings. Wadekar will now meet Madhavan on Monday and Kapil will come in on Wednesday.

The BCCI decided to refer these two to Madhvan after it was found that most of the incidents and matches listed in the CBI report were during their managership.

Madhvan told the TV channel in the interview, “initially I was asked to look into the players who have been indicted by the CBI. But later the BCCI special general body meeting held in Calcutta on November 29 last year, many members wanted some more enquiries to be done. So that was entrusted to me subsequently and I called them in.”

Madhavan said that he will “have to examine Kapil Dev and Wadekar with reference to various brought out in the CBI report and also other facts which may come out during the examination.”

Madhavan, a former CBI joint director, did not completely deny if he would ask Kapil to answer the allegations made by Manoj Prabhakar.

“Whatever is there in the CBI report will be asked to them.”

About his report on Kapil and Wadekar, Madhavan said “see the target I have kept is January 31. That is a self imposed target. It also depends upon what they say. If some further inquiries are required, I may take a little longer.”

About corruption among the officials, Madhavan said that no official has been named by the CBI, “the report only says that the BCCI as a body needs to clean up its supervision.” But added that the CBI would come up with a report on TV deals. Whether he gets to investigate that too “depends on the brief given to by the BCCI.”
