Why are we loosing so many orders?8221; e-mailed my Head of Sales. 8220;Are we not whetting our proposals carefully?8221; I tried to imagine all of us sitting in one place and carefully sharpening our blades to chop off those extra words in the proposals. So that the orders are loose-fitting and comfortable. It took me a while to understand that he was talking of losing orders and vetting proposals.
Once upon a time, I was a different person. I insisted on correct spellings, correct usage and correct grammar in communication, even if it was only an e-mail message! Worse, as I read something, if there was a spelling error, I got completely side-tracked and just could not progress further. Wrong spellings jumped right out of the page in font size 44 to hit me between my eyes. I wasted time correcting each wrong word and spelling. As a result, I always missed deadlines.
Pronunciation is the other mystery. Where I live, 8220;lion8221; is usually pronounced as 8220;loin8221;. Therefore, I am confused as to whether 8220;loin8221; should be pronounced as 8220;loin8221; or 8220;lion8221;? If the zoo-keeper ran away from his caged beasts, would we write, 8220;He left his 8216;loins8217; and ran away?8221; It has even crept into my favourite newspaper! It recently carried an article about Harry Potter8217;s latest escapades and how Hermione was displaying more mature and adult feelings. Only, her name was spelt as Hermoine rather like 8220;boilogy8221; or 8220;voilate8221;.
So, I no longer right wrongs or maybe I just write wrongs! Will someone please bale me out? I am fast loosing my touch and becoming a lose character! At this rate my family and friends will soon be crying fowl!
