
GURDASPUR, May 19: Twenty one licences of the commission agents have been suspended for irregular and corrupt practices while purchasing wheat from different mandis of this district. Raj Kumar Bibra, District Food and Supplies Controller said that 2 licences of commission agents were suspended in Sri Hargobindpur, 2 in Aliwal, 4 in Batala, 4 in Gurdaspur, 2 in Kahnuwal and 1 each in Varsola, Churhpur, Bhaini Paswal, Naushehra Majha Singh, Taragarh and Sujanpur.
Meanwhile, S.K. Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner of Gurdaspur said a total of 2,35,835 metric tonnes of wheat had been procured by May 18 as against last years 1,21,323 metric tonnes. Sandhu said that the FCI purchased 64,737 metric tonnes of wheat, Ware Housing Corporation 50,502 metric tonnes, PUNSUP 42655 metric tonnes, Markfed 48,810 metric tonnes, Food and Supplies Department 20,998 metric tonnes and private traders purchased 8, 187 metric tonnes.
