CHANDIGARH, Jan 24: The Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee has sought liberalisation of the system for conversion of leasehold property into freehold.
In a press release, CTCC general secretary and spokesman, Gurbachan Singh has said that since a majority of the properties in the city, including Chandigarh Housing Board flats, have been sold on the basis of General Power of Attorney GPA, the same should be recognised for the purpose of property conversion to freehold. He added that since a large number of property-owners have made changes in their dwelling units as per their requirements and needs, they would hesitate to submit affidavits while getting their property converted to freehold.
The Congress leader also appealed to the Chandigarh Administration for allowing at least 25 per cent of the altered covered area in each dwelling unit in the city for the purpose of conversion and recognise the conversions on the basis of GPAs.
