PATIALA, Jan 7: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Bir Devinder Singh here today appealed to the Akal Takht jathedar to review the Takht hukamnama banning Nirankaris from joining in the tercentenary celebrations of the Khalsa Panth.

Talking to news men, he said PPCC chief Amarinder Singh had already made such an appeal to the Takht chief. He said in view of the historic occasion of tercentenary celebrations of the Birth of Khalsa, it was befitting that all sects of the Sikhs were allowed to join the mainstream.

He said it was time the Takht chief took the initiative and allowed the Nirankaris to join the march. He said that anybody, irrespective of his caste, creed or religious belief, would be welcome to join the celebrations being organised by the PPCC in a big way.

The PPCC leader said the party was inviting leaders of different religions, including the Imam of Mecca, Pope John Paul, Shankracharyas of the different maths, the Dalai Lama, besides leaders of different religious sects like Sant Samaj, the Radha Saomi chief, head of the Sacha Sauda Dera, to participate in the celebrations. Bir Devinder Singh said the route and the dates of the march had been finalised at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the PPCC Chief.

The march would begin from Anandpur Sahib on April 9 and would reach Damdama Sahib on April 13, Baisakhi, where a big function would be organised. On April 15 the march would enter Haryana via Devigarh in Patiala district. He said a Dashmesh Jyoti would be brought from Patna and a sub-committee under the chairmanship of former ppcc chief Santokh Singh Randhawa had been constituted.

Bir Devinder Singh asserted that there was no undermining the role of Jagmeet Singh Brar, vice-president of the PPCC, by changing the dates and route of the march. He said the changes were made at a meeting of the party leaders held under the chairmanship of the PPCC chief. 8220;There was no monopoly of any leader on any programme and the party was supreme,8221; he added.
