KOLHAPUR, Aug 20: The Left Front has decided to contest seven Lok Sabha and 90 Assembly seats in the State. Besides, it will also support candidates of the Samajwadi Jan Parishad.

The Left Front comprises the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), and the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP). The Left Front decided to contest the seats after its talks for an electoral alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) fizzled out recently.

The CPI has fielded Dr. Radheshyam Gunjal in Kopargaon and Namdeo Chavan in Beed Parliamentary constituency. Besides, it will also contest 20 Assembly seats.

Candidates for these seats are as follows: Shivnath Jadhav, Sangamner, P. R. Kawre, Parner, Govardhan Gholap, Rahuri, Khandu Vikhe, Shird, Sangita Shinde, Kopargaon, Dilip Rankhambe, Bhilwadi Wangi, Jorawarkhan alias Jillu Mamu, Gangapur, Anita Jadhav, Kinwat, Mohan Sharma, Nagpur, Narayan Ghagare, Mazgaon, Mohan Sharma, Nagpur, Tukaram Bhasme, Tiwasa, Tukaram Dhole, Badnera, Devram Dhole, Arvi, Ganparrao Amrutkar, Mulsawali, Bhojram Ramteke, Gonidya, Ramesh Satturwar, Darwha, Geet Ghosh, Wani, and Vijay Kamble, Bhiwandi.

The Left Front has resolved to ensure victory of the maximum number of candidates where the it commands influence. For this purpose, the front will create a united poll campaign machinery.

A statement jointly issued by Govind Pansare (CPI), Prabhakar Sanzgiri (CPM) and N D Patil (PWP) said that defeat of the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance will be the main objective of the Left Front. During the poll campaign, the Left Front will oppose the anti-poor’ liberalisation process and will stress on self-dependent alternative economic policy.

The other poll issues include “the most pressing problems of people in the state, opposition to autocratic rule, corruption and criminalisation, poverty, price hike, unemployment and education,” the joint statement added.
