TRS chief faces criminal case for making ‘inflammatory’ speech

He reportedly asked people to target legislators, particularly of Congress and TDP.

Police have registered a criminal case against Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao for allegedly making inflammatory speech, officials said today.

The Saifabad police filed a suo motu case against the TRS chief based on his speech at a meeting organised by the Telangana Electricity Employees Joint Action Committee (TEEJAC) here on September 20 in support of the ongoing general strike called to demand statehood to the region.

Speaking at the event,Rao reportedly asked the people to “target” legislators, particularly of ruling Congress and main Opposition TDP,and not the electricity employees,if they felt any inconvenience (like power cuts) because of the TEEJAC stir.

“A suo motu case was registered against Rao in connection with his speech under IPC Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony and for spreading animosity among communities by words),” a senior police officer said.

Further investigations are on.
