Advani warns UPA,says bypoll results reflect its inability to govern

On his yatra in Nagpur,Oppn leader berates govt for corruption, calls PM 'weakest ever'.

Terming the Monday by-election results as very significant, veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani on Tuesday said the result were a reflection of UPA II’s inability to govern.

Addressing a press conference here,Advani said: “The results are significant, and a reflection of UPA II’s inability to govern. It is the electorate’s warning to the government.”

He further pointed that barring Bihar, all the other three states that witnessed by-elections were ruled by Congress.

Earlier, slamming the central government,Advani said the Congress party is at war leading to bad governance of the country.

“A civil war is going on in the party, they are not running any government. Someone has rightfully said that there may be a government in New Delhi, but there is no governance in the country today. The situation is that bad due to corruption we are defamed; a dysfunctional government, paralysed government,” said Advani.

Launching a fresh attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,Advani said: “Manmohan Singh is the weakest Prime Minister ever.”

“The Prime Ministerial post is the most powerful but Manmohan Singh is steered by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and as long as Gandhi directs him nothing better can be done.

“In 2009,when I called Manmohan Singh a weak Prime Minister, people criticised me. They said he is a simple and an honest man,and I should not say this. But calling someone weak is not an abuse. I have never seen such a weak Prime Minister. We have had Prime Ministers like H D Deve Gowda,Chandrashekhar and I K Gujaral. These people had the support of only a handful of MPs but were still strong leaders.

“Actually, the post of the Prime Minister has a lot of power, but as long as the Prime Minister is weak and takes directions from 10 Janpath (residence of Sonia Gandhi),nothing will happen,” said Advani.
