Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo member V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday took a dig at the rival faction in the party, which termed his idea of second land reforms as one suggested by “certain extremist groups”. He said the opportunists and revisionists have been always afraid of “extremists”. Such forces would also denounce the extremists, he said.
Many in the party believed that the reference to the “extremists”in the official communiqué issued by the state committee on August 9, was targeted at Achuthanandan.
He said the people of Kerala are well aware of whether he is an extremist or a moderate. Indicating that he would continue his fight in the party against the right-wing deviation, Achuthanandan said he has never changed his style of functioning.
Achuthanandan’s attack on the rival faction is likely to generate heat in the CPI(M) in Kerala. After the state conference in Kottayam, the party had claimed that the days of factionalism were over.
