CHANDIGARH, June 8: The case concerning the disappearance of a Ropar advocate, his wife and minor son will come up before UT Additional District and Sessions Judge G.S. Sandhu on July 15.
The case had to be adjourned after the defence counsel told the court that the Special Leave Petition, filed against the dismissal of their application by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was pending before a larger bench of the Supreme Court.
The counsel had earlier contended that challan could not be presented in the court by the police as, under the provisions of law, the case should have been a registered on the basis of a complaint and not a FIR.
The incident dates back to January 1993. Kulwant Singh8217;s father reported to the police that the advocate, his wife and two year old son had disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The police, however, failed to trace them.
The CBI was directed to investigate by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, trial was initiated against one Harpreet Singh alias Lucky.
The CBI stated after investigations that Lucky was innocent and DSP Jaspal Singh, Inspector Balwant Singh, Sub Inspector Arvinder Bir Singh and Assistant Sub Inspector Darshan Singh were responsible for the fabrication of evidence against him.
