MYSORE, SEPT 9: The birds have arrived but tourists haven’t. The Ranganathittu birds sanctury remains deserted ever since Rajkumar was abducted.

The tourist flow used to peak between September and October with birds from various countries flying to this island in Srirangapatna, 18 km from Mysore. Birds from Australia, Siberia and many other countries come to Ranganathithu during this season.

Normally, there would be around a thousand visitors to the sanctuary at this time of the year. According to Sheik Mahar, the forester in charge of Ranganathittu, boating has been suspended due to the heavy flow of water and low tourist turnout.

Sheik said there has been a high turnout of birds from various countries after a long time. Painted Stork, White Ibis, Little Egret, Open Billed Storck, Grey Heron, Spoon Bill, Little Carmorant have built nests in the sanctuary.
