CHANDIGARH, July 23: Alleged middlemen in the engineering department kickback case, Dinesh Sharma and Suresh Kumar Sharma were granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, here today.Pronouncing the order, Justice S.C. Malte directed them to execute bail bond and surety of Rs 50,000 each to the satisfaction of the UT Chief Judicial Magistrate.He observed that the petitioners had been in custody for 88 days. After the completion of 90 days, the petitioners would be entitled to bail as a matter of right.The duo were booked by the Vigilance Department under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 406, 409, 420 and 120 B of the IPC after their residence was raided by the income tax authorities in November 1997.According to the prosecution, certain diaries mentioning the names of UT Administration officials receiving illegal gratification along with the amount, were recovered during the raids.
