MUMBAI, December 20: Omkar Khanwilkar grabbed five wickets for 37 runs to help Mumbai skittle out Saurashtra for 140 in the second innings and bowl the hosts to a 76-run win on the third and final day of their West Zone Vijay Merchant under-16 trophy league tie here, today.

Mumbai, leading by 142 runs, declared their second innings closed at 74 for 8 in 19.4 overs to set the visitors 217 to for a win.

But Saurashtra folded up for 140 in 58.4 overs with the third wicket partnership worth 46 runs between opener Prashant Joshi (33, 5×4) and Krishna Chawda (42, 6×4) providing the saving grace.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 317-8 decl & 74-8 decl (Jignesh Adatia 5-31, Nikesh Mehta 4-40) bt Saurashtra 175 & 140 (Prashant Joshi 33, Krishna Chawda 42; Uday Karkera 2-8, Omkar Khanwilkar 5-37).

BHUPENDRA EXCELS: A fine spell of medium-pace bowling by Bhupendra Singh (5 for 40) helped hosts Bombay City Police to bowl out Cricket Club of India for 116 in 36.3 overs in the second-round of the Police Invitation cricket shield tournament at the Brabourne Stadium, today. At close of play, Police were 16 for no loss in four overs.

At the Wankhede Stadium, Victory, after being put into bat, were also struggling at 40 for three. However, their fourth wicket pair of Chandrakant Pandit (41) and Maroof Khan (batting 55) put on 89 runs and helped them to finish the day at 151 for 4 in 44 overs against Mumbai Cricket Association Colts.

In the semi-finals played today, RCF trounced Larsen & Toubro by six wickets while BSES downed Air-India by 102 runs.

CHOITRANI TRIUMPHS: Manish Choitrani won the first major title of the year defeating Akhil Behl Leela-Switcher Squash Masters final at the Leela court, Sahar, today.

Choitrani upstaged Behl in an hour long match in four sets, 15-10, 15-4, 8-15, 15-8. Choitrani started well as he won the first two sets with little effort.

In the third set, Behl came back strongly and finished the set with losing eight points. But in the fourth set, Choitrani didn’t game Behl a chance to get advantage and finished the fourth set 15-8 and also finished the match.SAI ROUT WCG: SAI thrashed Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana (WCG) 8-0 after leading by a lone goal at the breather in the BHA First Division league at the Mahindra Stadium, today.

Mohammed Zuber (4), Ashfaqe Ahmed (2), Rahul Bhatkar and Irshad Ali were the goal-getters for the winners.

In Pool A of the Fourth Division league, a hat-trick by Johnny highlighted Ordnance Factory’s 7-2 rout of Fr Agnel Balbhavan, Vashi.

Vijay (2) and Sadanand scored for Ordnance. Max Noronha and Hanumant Edke reduced the margin for the losers.
