MUMBAI, May 3: Khalsa XI completed a now regulation thumping win in the quarter-finals of the S D Bhivandiwala hockey tournament at the Mahindra Stadium today.

The Khalsa youngsters scored four, including two quick ones towards the end of the first half, against a hapless Central Railway Workshop, Matunga. Lawrence Noronha carried Khalsa through to the semi-final to be played against Rebel Sports Club on Tuesday by scoring one and brilliantly setting up two. Nitin Bhosle struck twice and coach-playmaker Hardeep Singh Saini added one to the Khalsa tally.

The Rebels, meanwhile, looked set to make a smooth entry into the semis with a dominant first half which they led 1-0. However, a penalty stroke in the 45th minute put Vasai Eskimos back on track after dominating the entire second half. The resultant shoot-out went in Rebels8217; favour.

Condrad Fernandes, playing right-out throughout the match, donned the pads for the tie-breaker and emerged hero with two opportunistic saves. A dive to the left and a shottake on his chest made way for his team8217;s semi-final entry. And taking no chances, he scored his team8217;s fourth goal in the tie-breaker as well.

Khalsa dominate: After Lawrence successfully converted a penalty corner in the 18th minute, things became quieter till two minutes from the break. First, Bhosle shot home after Allan Fernandes8217; centre clearance had beaten everyone and seconds later, Lawrence won a battle with the competent CR custodian Chetan Remedios and managed to relay to Saini who scored.

In the 40th minute, Lawrence8217;s well directed free hit found Bhosle for the final nail in the CRW coffin.

Indian Airlines play Bombay Republicans C in the other semi-final on Tuesday.
