
SURAT, July 7: Union Textile minister Kashiram Rana inaugurated the Indian Diamond Institute’s hostel building recently. Surat (North) MLA Dhirubhai Gajera, vice-chairman of Jem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council Prabodhbhai Mehta and general manager of Surat Telecom district Y P Kataria were among those who attended the function.
The Union Commerce Ministry has earmarked Rs 15 lakhs for the hostel, constructed at a cost of Rs 22.85 lakhs. The hostel, built over 7000 sq ft, has 18 rooms that can accommodate up to 72 students. IDI president Chandrakant Sanghvi said the industry provides the country Rs 7,000 crores in foreign exchange.
