NEW DELHI, MAY 18: BAHUJAN Samaj Party supremo Kanshi Ram has once again raised doubts about longevity of the party’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, describing its coalition partner in Uttar Pradesh, ‘‘a cobra with open fang.’’
‘‘The Congress is saanpnath, the United Front is naagnath and the BJP a cobra,’’ Kanshi Ram said in an interview to a private TV-channel Rubaru.
According to a TV channel press release, he felt that the cobra was the least dangerous of the deadly reptiles. The Communists were like green snakes, camouflaged in grass, and therefore, ‘‘one has to deal with them very carefully.’’
The BSP chief said people called him opportunist, but ‘‘I am a person who never wastes an opportunity. I create opportunities and make use of it so that our society is benefitted.’’
His party had to break alliance with the Congress because it was unable to create the opportunity to form the BSP led government in Uttar Pradesh, he said.
On the transfer of power to the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, he said BSP would abide by its commitment and hand over power to the BJP after completion of its six months term.
Asked if he was in favour of an electoral alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party on national level, the BSP supremo said he would review the situation after the one year term.
Much would, however, depend on the BJP because in the present scenario, BJP wanted status quo to be maintaned while BSP was for change.
Kanshi Ram said it was not right on the part of the BJP to criticise UP Chief Minister Mayawati on creation of more districts in the State.
‘‘We asked Mayawati to do six years’ work in six months, so work will be fast and so will be the changes,’’ he said.
While refuting the allegation of large-scale transfer of money against Mayawati, Kanshi Ram said ‘‘those who have previous experiences of which post fetches how much money only are making such allegations.’’
The money that he needed for party funds or for election expenditures come from coupons or from rallies, he said. He was, however, not prepared to promote Mayawati as the country’s next Prime Minister.
