New Delhi, October 10: The procession of seeds, with the exception of eighth seed Nishank Mishra in Boys under-18 category, marched into the second round of DSCL Open National Tennis championship here on Tuesday.

Men8217;s top seed Vijay Kannan defeated Ravikrishna Palivela 6-4 6-4 in an hour and 25 minutes in a match that was heavily dominated by power serving.In another first round match, second seed Vinod Sridhar gave a 6-2 6-2 drubbing to Amanjyot Singh in just over an hour, as quality tennis was on display with more seeds in action.

Seventh seed Saurav Panja was tested by Kamala Kannan before prevailing 7-6 7-3 6-3, while eighth seed Rishi Sridhar was stretched to three sets by Rohan Gajjar for a place in second round. The score read 6-1 4-6 7-6 7-2 in favour of Rishi.

In the women8217;s section, fourth seed Sonal Phadke was extended to four sets in her first round match against Lata Assudani. Phadke won 4-0 0-4 4-0 4-1.Women8217;s sixth seed Megha Vakharia outclassed Nikita Bharadwaj 4-0 4-1 4-0 in just 40 minutes.

Sania Mirza, who crashed out of the Girl8217;s U-18 on Monday, made it to the second round of the women8217;s singles by beating Reedhina Parekh 4-1 5-3 4-2.In the Boy8217;s U-18 event, seventh seed Harshit Sharma beat Nikhil Murali 7-5 6-2 to advance to the second round.

In the Girl8217;s under-18 event, Preeti Rao, Sanaa Bhambri and Priyanka Parekh made it to the second round without much resistance from their opposition.
