The junior Sankaracharya of Kanchi Mutt, Vijayendra Saraswati, was questioned by the special police team investigating the Sankararaman murder case this afternoon.

After being questioned for nearly 75 minutes, Vijayendra left the office. He will have to come again for questioning and the dates would be intimated to him later.

Mutt advocate Thyagarajan said that the junior seer was questioned by Additional SP, Sakthivel and was permitted to leave as other senior police officials, busy with the rescue and relief works in the aftermath of the tremors that shook the state, were not available.

Asked whether the seer met his brother Raghu, the advocate said he had met him for a brief while. Raghu was whisked away by the police from his residence in Chennai this morning. ‘‘I do not know whether he was arrested,’’ the advocate said. Another mutt advocate, Shanmugham told reporters that the police had forcibly brought Raghu here this morning, even after they were told that he was convalescing from a surgery.

Nagamallaiah, the victim, who is originally from Karnataka, was attacked by his co-worker-- Yordanis Cobos-Martinez at the Downtown Suites motel where he worked.
