The Resident Deputy Collector (RDC) of Junagadh was suspended on Friday following a departmental probe initiated against him.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had trapped A A Ramanuj when he was working as a deputy collector and a sub-divisional magistrate of Dhrangdhra town of Surendranagar district, for receiving a bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Jetha Patel, a resident of Halwad town of the same district. Patel had lodged a complaint with the ACB that Ramanuj had demanded the sum in lieu of a favour in a revenue related work.
Following Patel’s complaint, the ACB set up a trap and caught Ramanuj red-handed. Ramanuj was immediately transferred from Dhrangdhra and a departmental inquiry was initiated against him.
Following the inquiry report, the government put him under suspension with immediate effect.
According to official sources, Ramanuj has been placed under the office of the Mehsana district collector. Later, his case will be tabled before the court, which will decide on his fate.
